Candidate Recruitment: A Look to the Future
Come hear Missouri Democratic Leader and Political Activist, Harriett Woods discuss the "how to’s" of identifying and recruiting the best candidates for races Up and Down the ticket. Her 30 plus years in Missouri politics have given her a unique perspective in our state. As a past President of the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC), Harriett's primary focus is recruiting female candidates but the methods are the same-- identifying the best candidate. Presently, serious recruitment efforts are going on to find democratic challengers to take back both the Missouri House and Senate. The former Lt. Governor reflected on that long career in a book, "Stepping Up to Power: The Political Journey of American Women." Harriett has often said recruiting never stops, one must always be filling the political pipeline with qualified candidates.

Meeting agenda: Wednesday, December 7th
6:30 to 7:00 gathering time
7:00 to 9:00 general meeting
Where: The Corner Coffee House in Ferguson
Directions: Take the inner belt (I-170) north to the Airport Road exit (a mile or less beyond the Highway 70 exits). Turn right (east) onto Airport Road and go about two miles to the light at New Florissant Road. (There's a Walgreens on the southeast corner.) Turn right and go one block. On the left is the Corner Coffee House.

As usual there will also be great action items, open mic time and other guest speakers. Please Join us!

November's meeting will include a breif talk from our State Senate candidate Jeff Smith regarding the ongoing torture scandal. Last week John McCain sponsored an amendment to the military appropriations bill that that passed in the Senate 90 to 9 establishing the Army Field manual as the official guide for interrogating detainees. Now this bill must be reconciled with the House version that does not contain the McCain amendment forbidding torture. The White House has threatened to veto the appropriations bill over the McCain amendment and Cheney is applying heavy pressure to both Senators and Representatives to water it down. This talk will be followed by a letter writing action item.

Also, there will be a representative from Jane Bogetto's campaign on hand to discuss what we can do to help with the final push before her Nov. 8th election day.

In addition, we will have some open forum time. If there is anything you would like to plug such as an event, a candidate, or a cause near and dear to you, or something you would like our group to consider taking on, you will be given three minutes to address the group. There will be a sign-up sheet for this when you arrive.

Please join us, together we can make a difference.

If you would like to be intricately involved in the steering and future planning for the St. Louis DFA / CFM group, this is the meeting to attend. I will be passing the group torch to the newly formed steering committee. If you have been wanting to get more involved and help to make a difference, please join us. If you are a casual attender who likes to join projects as you can, but do not want to commit to being on the groups steering committee, please attend the November event. The doors will open at 6:30 and the meeting will begin at 7:00.

Thanks,
